IT Systems Engineer (Data Centre)

Due to continued growth, we have a requirement for an IT Systems Engineer to oversee the operation of our outsourced Data Centre; the successful candidate will have a minimum of two years’ experience in maintaining production web servers and related applications and the key skills and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the areas outlined below.
 

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Taking responsibility for our hosted systems environments
  • Following documented change / maintenance / security processes
  • Ensuring optimal application performance and uptime in accordance with business and customer expectations
  • Ensuring adoption of best security practices, auditing and compliance (including PCI-DSS)
  • Daily management of hosted computer, storage and backup services
  • Regular status and measurement reporting to the management, customer support teams and developers
  • Taking ownership and resolving service affecting incidents by utilising available skills and resources
  • Hardware maintenance
  • Leasing with hardware vendors (off/on site)
  • Sourcing and managing installation of replacement hardware where necessary
  • Helping drive a roadmap/strategy for future hosted systems growth
     

Key Skills Requirements

  • Technical expertise in Windows ; web hosting, storage, tools and data protection
  • Windows Server
  • Internet Information Systems (IIS)
  • SSL certificate management
  • Webfarms (Clustering/NLB)
  • Automated deployment (MSDEPLOY etc)
  • MS SQL Server (High availability)
  • SAN/NAS connectivity
  • Secure server publishing
  • Critical updates/service packs/patch management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent skills in problem solving, continual learning and process refinement
     

Beneficial skills

  • SQL Scripting, SQL Performance Reporting/Tweaking, Powershell/C# Scripting
  • A relevant MCSE certification would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of hosted web application environments (Java/PHP/.NET)
  • ITIL / MOF training or certification
  • Good working knowledge of PCI-DSS security standards
